This is a clinical diagnostic tool designed to assess speech perception difficulties in individuals with sloping high-frequency hearing loss. Developed and validated at AIISH on native Tamil speakers, the test utilizes two bisyllabic and one trisyllabic word list containing specific high-frequency phonemes to provide a more accurate estimate of perception than standard word lists. Administered at 40 dB SL, the test yields a percentage score based on correct identifications, which clinicians then correlate with a patient's Pure Tone Average across 500 Hz to 4 kHz. This standardized assessment is essential for both diagnosing subtle auditory deficits and improving the selection and fitting of hearing aids for native Tamil speakers.
